`Just Dance

`Just Dance is an intermediate through advanced role playing site that takes place in New York. The city has a prominent dance school by the name of Clarksbury that every dancer hopes to attend to sky rocket their career. The scouts come to all of their concerts looking for the ones who can make it into the big time Broadway shows, and even in film and television.

Fall Annual Dance Performance

It's that time of year again, and the entire school is buzzing for the upcoming performance. The concert will be held in a different theater uptown, and there are limited times to prectice on the stage because of this. So, staging and spacing are done in increments of 4 throught the day, and soon they will be brought out into the bright lights to perform. Who will survive, and who will crack under the pressure?

Sometimes when you wake up in the morning look out the window and think about where you are, and what you would like that where to be like, the two pictures just don't match up. For Jayce, the picture he was seeing right now was of busy streets and lights, filled with car horns and yells, people rushing from here to there doing something or other. The city that never sleeps, just as awake as ever. But the picture he had painted in his mind and memory, was of that English country home, all green and gorgeous, with fresh air that wasn't killing you with every lungful. He was used to it, and didn't mind the city so much as many would growing up like him. But only because he was here for a reason, and there were people, lots of people. All different kinds of people with their fascinating minds, all clashing with one another.

His room was a little sanctuary to all the noise, and something most people he brought back to it were not expecting. Either they'd ignore it because they weren't the type to care and just wanted to get to what they came for, or they would notice and he'd have some sweet touching psychological or whatever response to it. But in the middle with the headboard at the far wall was what every room needed- a bed. One with the rooms resident just waking up in, and oddly enough, doing so alone. He didn't have somebody there every day, but, fairly often. The sheets on the futon-style mattress were an unstained white pure cotton, and the pillows nice and fluffy, but not feather. Nope, his room was probably as vegan as he got. This was all fitted in a wooden frame directly on the floor rather than risen with space underneath, but thick enough not too be too close to the floor. All around this bed though, was the stuff that surprised most people. Instead of the usual few posters of favorite bands or assorted objects on furniture and whatnot, Jayce had an assortment of plants and small animals, all of which very nicely kept healthy and with nicely created environments. He liked his little piece of natural home in the city. Of course, this didn't keep him from having the large screen plasma TV on the one wall across from the bed complete with DVD player and game consuls.

The blond haired boy now opened his gray eyes to a loud siren screaming down the street right outside the window he now stared out of. No way he was going to get back to sleep now, no point in even trying, and he really had nothing to do, and anything he would have to do, wouldn't be for a good long while considering it was pretty damn early in the morning. So, he stretched his nicely muscled arms, running his fingers through that hair a bit before getting out of his bed clad only in cotton boxers.

After showering and tending to anything alive and thriving in that room of his, he pulled on a plain pair of black cargo pants and a nicely fitting plain white cotton Hanes t-shirt, topped with an unzipped thin hoodie. Grabbing his backpack he shoved into it his notebook, music, and speaker dock, heading out of the dorms with one strap slung over his shoulder.

He had so much time, so he might as well work on his latest creations of dance and music. Only, he didn't want to do so in the studio, he wanted the closest to that painting etched in his mind as he could get in this city. And that at this early hour, was Riverbank Park. Not as crowded and popular as Central Park, and virtually empty when most people were heading into work with the rush.

Finding a nice flat, and to his pleasure, quite and green place, he took out his music and dock speaker so he could hear it while he danced, but not too loud so as not to disturb anything in the peace. Leaving the sweatshirt by the music and slipping out of his shirt as well, he began.

This he did for about half an hour now. On the notebook, he had a few notes, some scratch outs and add-ins for both the music and the dance he had created. On the grass he now did a series of moves, letting the music play out this section. The music was his own creation as well, having a nice beat and rhythm to it, modern yet not harsh like a lot of the hardcore hip-hop, even a bit delicate really, with a lot or instrumentals like horns and piano. He danced to it with his own version on technicalities, the moves each strictly formed yet relaxed and flowing without the pompous effect of the typical ballet style. He also included a lot of acrobatic moves and such that required a lot of strength and flexibility. When he finished the sequence, though it looked fine, he didn't look please as he made scratch out after scratch out in that notebook, playing the section of the song over and over and replaying his dance sequence over and over. Finally he threw the notebook at the speaker with a curse that was American slang but with his clear yet not thick British accent, running his fingers through his hair out of frustration. When the book hit the player it must have hit the next button because the song it now played started with male vocals over the music that were his own voice, joined by a female vocal, both sounding quite good. He didn't notice though, thinking too hard on how to change the sequence.

The room itself was quiet, but the surrounding activities from the outside created a soft, yet buzzing noise. As the minutes ticked by, the noises became too much for Lena. She was eventually woken by the sounds. Her dark eyes opened sleepily, trying to adjust to the light. Selena usually fell asleep while doing something, so the light was pretty much always on when she awoke in the morning. This time in particular she had fallen asleep while reading a magazine. It was rare that she even bought magazines, since she'd usually stand and read one at a news stand briefly before carrying on with her day. But she had seen a certain band on the cover of the mag and had heard they were having a concert sometime soon around here. For some reason ro another this had sparked her interest. While she would have stood there like any other time and flip through it, she would have been late and decided to purchase it for a change.

As lifted her feet from the bed onto the flooring, the mag slipped off of her lap, falling to the floor. She kicked it softly before stretching tou her arms, releasing some tension. "I hate mornings" she said to herself. Mornings were the worst time for her, and for most people who were around her. She could wake up early and all that jazz, but not socialize. Selena hated it when people were just so chatty in the morning. She needed a good hour and a half before she could even talk to anyone in the mornings. And even then her demeanor wasn't guaranteed to be pleasant. She remember when her older sister Nora would ask her for something in the mornings. Often she would just walk out of the room, ignoring her all together. Other times she would just snap and start yelling, making a bit deal out of small unimportant things. But it was moreso the tension between the two that made her so tense. She was just glad that she didn't have to deal with that girl anymore on a regular basis. Sure, they both still lived in New York but didn't have to see each other too often- and they didn't

Lena yawned loudly, not bothering to cover her mouth. She would usually do that, but she wasn't in public, and there was no one around , so she felt no need to. She glanced around the room quickly before rising to her feet. "Damn I hate mornings" she reiterated. The young girl then meandered over to the dresser which held most of her clothing. She opened the first drawer, pulling out undergarments. Setting the aside, she bent lower, opening the second drawer. Lena glanced at the shirts and rummaged through them before pulling out a black corset-like top. She then pulled out a button up white blouse out of the other corner of the drawer. Closing the top two drawers, Lena then squatted to look through the last one. She opened it, and pulled out her favorite pair of dark skinnty denim jeans. Selena then set her attire selection on her bed and left to take a shower.

Returning a twenty minutes later feeling fresh, aa smile crossed her face. Yes, a genuine smile crossed Miss Selena's face before twelve pm. It was rare, but she felt strangely good today. Like her body was giving off more endorphins that usual. As negative as she could be, she did like to feel happy like everyone else did. She slid undergarments over her body, still a bit wet fromt he shower. Lena then took the first black top and fitted it over her torso, making sure nothing wasn't out of place. Picking up the blouse, she slid it over her left arm then her right. She buttoned it up midway, revealed a bit of the top underneath. She then slid the jeans of her medium length legs and buttoned them. She then fastened the belt to an appropriate extension. Selena then walked over to her vanity mirror, where some of her most prized items were: her makeup.

She took the black eyeliner pencil, carefully coloring her bottom lids and the inner part of her top lid. Selena then brushed some eyeshadow a bit darker than her skin tone on her top lid. Taking some mascara and brushing it over her lashes. Len a then took the brush nearby, running it through her hair a few times. Looking herself over in the mirror a few times. Giving herself a nod of approval, she left out of the door, grabbing her oversized black purse on her way out. Now out of the building she wasn't too sure where to go. "Well I could hang out at the park" she thought to herself She could relax and read a novel she planned on finishing pr something productive. Besides, she could use the fresh air to make her mood better.

After stopping for a bagel and getting some tea, Selena headed over to the park. She actually loved going to the Riverbank park. It was so calm, and not crowded unlike Central Park. While it was beautiful, Central Park wasa bit too crowded for Selena. As she began to get a bit closer, she heard a faint sound. Music, perhaps? It stopped her in her tracks, but she then continued walking. Selena then heard the sound again. Her dark eyes gazed around the park, seeing where it was coming from. She then spotted a guy around her age. She though she may have seen him a few times around at school. Surprisingly, a name couldn't come to mind, since she usually could remember names perfectly.

She watched him for a few moments, as he danced. Selena then looked over for a bench nearby. She then seated herself. Selena then pulled out a notebook out of her large purse, with a black ink pen attached to the spine. She then opened up the notebook. Selena then began to write out a list of some things she needed to do. Occasionally her eyes would drift back over to the guy. He was, impressive, but mroeso , quite attractive. But she tried to seem and unnoticeable as possible. Getting caught starting at someone was something Lena just didn't do on a regular basis.

He just waited there for a minute, finally hearing the song that was playing and smiling a bit. That recording was him and his step sister Veronica this past holidays. He listened for a bit before going back to the song he had been working on, finding the right section and listening to the music, motioning out the steps but not actually doing to moves. With that he wrote something down about a slight change to the music. He'd change even the tiniest details of his works that nobody would notice changed or not, perfectionism redefined. He paused it, about to take the song and dance from the beginning when he noticed somebody else there.

She had been quiet, but the surroundings were pretty quiet. She had been quiet about staring at him, but he could feel her eyes anyway. He caught a glimpse at her as she sat down without really looking, and knew she looked familiar, he had a thing with remembering faces. Figuring she was about his age range, this was probably because she went to Clarksbury.

Now, Jayce was never bothered by crowds an onlookers. People could watch him as much as they very well pleased, he didn't care, and he didn't get nervous. But theres a difference between looking, and staring. This girl, was staring. The thing with staring, you never know why. He could care less what she was thinking about him, but in a town and school like this, everybody trying to be the best, he knew the things people would do. And that was what bothered him. Without even looking at her he spoke loud enough for her to hear, "If your a scout, or looking for some new moves, you best be on your way pet." He took a drink of water from the bottle he brought then, still having no need to look at her. He had no problem with people watching him, but he did have a problem with them watching his work. His creations were all his own, and completely original. He was just a second year and he'd work them to perfection, because he was perfection. Last person that had decided to 'borrow' some of his work, had ended up in no condition to preform that borrowed work as was planned. She might be completely innocent, but she might not be, and that notebook wasn't making it look any better for her. He'd say it anyway, really not in the mood for once to play games.

Selena was then finally able to focus a bit more upon her current task. She was making a list of things she needed to get done. 1.- make a new routine. She wrote this atop the first line of the clean sheet of paper. Her pen rapidly raced across the paper and she went to the next line. a.- pick a song she though, scribblingit under the previous header. She then sat still for a moment, tapping the end of the pen on her chin. Thinking for a moment, she looked up towards the sky. It was a habit she had. It always looked as if she was staring at something in particular, though she wasn't. Selena then started upon another header. She skipped two lines before writing in a larger print 'New Clothes'. It had been a while before she had been able to buy any. And despite other cases where she just wanted more, she actually needed it this time. Ever since she had enrolled here, it had been a bit of a challenge. Her parents, despite their wealth, refused to support her frivolous expenses. The amount of makeup, shoes, and various other things had shrunk incrediby now that she had to pay for it herself. She then gave a soft sigh before continuin on for the list. Under ther clothing header she wrote 'tennis shoes', 'track suit', and 't-shirtsp'. She then what the estimated cost of it all might be. Lena then checked the time on her cell, then placing the phone back into her purse.

As she sat, trying to keep herself busy, she had hoped the guy hadn't seen her. She didn't feel in the mood for such an embarrassing moment. Lena then heard a voice speaking to her. It took her a moment to figure where it was coming from. When she realized who it was, she bit her lip somewhat nervously. Shit she thought. But then as she listened to what he had said, an expression of shock and disbelief crossed her face. Her mouth was open, and for once, she didn't know what to say. Well at the very moment she didn't. What? she thought, still a bit puzzled. Was I just accused of-when I was just- she thought to herself. Lena felt somewhat offended that someone would say just a thing. But she would try to keep her composure. She inhaled deeply, exhaling sharply. She then cleared her throar. "Excuse me?" she asked, her voice sounded with confusion, yet politeness. She could say so much more, but wouldn't Lena was in no mood to go off on anybody. She couldn't control what she was feeling inside, but she could control how she reacted to it. And that was just what she was going to do now. "While you may be good, I must inform you that I do not steal, copy, or imitate form others" she said, trying to stay pleasant. She allowed a soft grin to cross her lips, with it being half genuine, the other half smug.

She then stood from the bench, and took a few steps toward him. "But may I ask why you thought I was doing such a thing?" she questioned, curiously. While she wasn't as mad as she had been when he first spoke, she just wanted to know his basis for saying that. Maybe it was his tone, his words, or the use of the noun 'pet'. She wasn't too sure what that even meant anyway. Her first language wasn't English, so a few slang terms were a bit confusing for her. But this one, she she hadn't heard used before. She wasn't about to let her day that started out quite nicely be turned sour by making an enemy. There wer enough people who she wasn't exactly enemies with, just generally had a distaste for her. Most of the time she had a standoffish attitude, but this time she felt the need to be defensive this one time. Len a then gave a soft sigh, placing her hands on her hips.

"It seems like my mere presence pisses people off" she remarked, more so to herself. Selena then looked back over at him. "And if you must know what I was doing, I was making lists of things I must get done." she confessed. She had no clue what made her say that. She didn't have to need to explain herself to someone. But whenever she was accused wrong, Lena jumped to her own defense and went to all lengths to prove her innocence. She didn't know if she should talk more and take the chance of making herself look even worse or just to shut her mouth. Well I never though just going to the park would result in this" Lena thought. "Do you react that way to everyone who watches you? Ever consider that it might just be interesting to me?" she said, in a more pleasant tone. Lena was attempting to lighten the mood.

As far as he was concerned, he had several reason to keep his work his and only so. For one, credit shall be where credit is due, and that was to him. The originality, each tiny detail, everything that made up those sequence of moves and notes physically mentally and spiritually- his. Secondly, because his work was too perfected to be ruined by some no talent thief who couldn't give a performance worthy of it. And finally, because dance wasn't just about following the steps, anybody can do that if they try. Its a work of art, a creation, and it should mean something. The steps and technicalities are one thing, the spirit and deep meaning was another. You can't just dance it, you have to mean it. Those pieces were his, and nobody else could present them like they were to him, each little detail of its own importance. So yeah, he was a bit protective, but could you blame him in a place like this? People here would do anything to get to the top, and they do. Usually he isn't so abrasive, but it comes with frustration.

When she started speaking, then he looked at her. Taking in each minute detail with those gray eyes of his. He could tell she was offended, so either she was one hell of an actress, didn't like being caught, or she really was just there. He had only accused her so out front out of frustration anyway, so once he took a moment to breathe he wasn't as inclined to convict her in his mind right then and there. "Sorry, no need to get defensive. Nothing personal, just a precaution." If he hadn't had it happen before he probably wouldn't be so hostile about it. That and he took it much more personally than most people. Jayce just didn't like people messing with him, he'd mess with them, but they messed with him, they'd regret it.

His use of the slang 'pet' confused her because not only was English not her first language, but the term wasn't even American, it was British, as was he and his accent. Though he did tend to use a lot of American vocabulary as well. It meant nothing really, just a way of referring to somebody. He hadn't meant to insult her, well, unless she had been doing what he had accused, then he'd have really given her a piece of his mind. "Trust me, its not you." He was frustrated without her there, snapping at her was just... reflexive.

At her last words, of many he might add, he actually did laugh a bit. Calm enough by now to be his usual level self. This, the dancing and music and all that, was one of the few things that could really get him worked up like that. Did he react to everybody like that? Well, that wasn't the first time. "Only when their staring." he glanced back at the notebook and its many crossouts that was still in his hand for a second before back to her. "And well, apparently when I'm frustrated." He tossed it lightly to the ground next to his music. "You never know in this business." Got to be careful right?

After finishing speaking, he calmed down a moment, thinking over what she had said. She probably shouldn't have reacted that way. But she had a problem with that. Lena would go on and on about something and only after she said it did she think it over. It got her into quite a bit of trouble, and even caused her some embarrassment from time to time. She wasn't quite sure if that had happened yet, but was going to try and keep it from causing any more damage. But it was maybe the way he had snapped. Lena wasn't used to having someone else do that to her. Most of the time, she was on the other end. Now that the tables had turned on her this time, she actually knew how it felt. She wasn't sure if it was going to change her mind if she did that. But she might evaluate what she would snap on people about if she decided to do so. While the reasoning behind his questioning was understandable, it mainly caught her off guard. Being unprepared was something that caught up with her quickly. Fortunately, she was well prepared most of the time.

As she listened to him speak, she calmed down a bit, and was able to revert to the more pleasant attituve she had earlier. She could understand that he would wan want to make sure his hard work hadn't been badly copied, but that wasnt'the real reason she as all that mad. Selena was rather arrogant at times and was quite appalled that someone would accuse her of such a thing. Although she was perfectly aware that her ego stretched far beyond what people thought of her, she didn't really care. She just wanted to be respected, something that had never really happened. Being looked down upon was something that she would not put up with. Lena was the type who would protect her work as well, so she coudl understand his precautions. She may have handled the situation a bit more confrontationally than he had. Most of the time she would at least directly speak to them in a quiet, yet stern and firm tone, spewing sone pretty nasty insults. Only then would she find out if they had been watching her. But even then, she was somwhat self conscious about being watched during practice. It put alot of pressure on her that he usually pull away slightly from her skill. But it was something she'd just have to get used to around here.

When he had answered their previous question, she ended up laughing a bit. Unfortunately she hadn't been as discreet as she had planned. Lena then looked down tot he ground somewhat embarrassedly while rubbing her neck, another nervous habit of hers. She then looked up an sighed before speaking. "Oh yeah. Uh sorry about that. I usually don't do that" she said in a soft tone. It was quite odd for her to be apologizing but she felt compelled to for some reason. She'd be a little worried if someone was staring at her as well. She listened as he had mentioned he was frustrated. As he continued to speak she nodded along in agreement. "I know, it's already hard enough to trust people on a everyday basis" Selena added. Wasn't sure if he felt the same about that sentiment, but it was rather hard fo her to trust other. It wasn't really in her to trust. She'd never had someone who was always there, so she just sort of learned to go on with just herself. She thought for a moment, trying to change the subject. "I know I've seen you ar Clarksbury before" she said, placing her index finger against her chin as she thought. "And I as I see a bit mroe of you, I can still only think of a last name. Ross, right?" she questioned.

She didn't expect him to recognize her; not too many people did yet. She was working on that actually. That was one of her goals for this year: to be more social. This would require her to change her personality change a bit. Though when she thought about the reward it didn't bother her much. Of course she wasn't the type to conform but would if it was required. It wasn't really a desire to be 'popular' per se, or at least that's what Selena thought. When she thought of those type of people it was artificial, cookie cutter attitudes and styles came to mind. That most definitely wasn't her. Which was why most of her life, she was the type to lay low.

Jayce didn't usually snap at people like that, at least, not accidentally. If he did it was because he wanted too and was probably messing with you. So the fact that he had slipped up and snapped like that, really showed just how worked up he was getting over this Annual Fall performance. Which bothered him. Not only was he worrying about it, but he was letting it show that he was worrying about it. Jayce didn't get like that often, he was always so relaxed, never losing it like that. He wasn't going to let this show now, definately not about to let it bother him again, but he really was going to beat himself up over it later. Just meant he'd have to try harder, work more, get this down better. He'd never let a performance get to him before, he wasn't about to start.

He noticed how embarrassed she looked and had to laugh as well. "Do what, stare, or get caught staring?" He put his notebook down, turning off the music that was still playing up until then. "Don't be embarrassed, really, not the first time." He'd had plenty of people stare at him, and he'd pointed out plenty of them. They usually responded exactly how she was. But they usually hadn't been snapped at like he had snapped at her. He wasn't self conscious, but he was protective. Right now that was all centered on this performance. This dance was making him make mistakes he was so frustrated over it, he was dead set on making it perfect, and there was going to be no chances that anything was going to get in the way of that. "Trust is a complex thing. The existence of it can mean many things, good, or bad. But in the end, all it is, is a weakness to that thing. Whether it be deep feeling, or stupidity, its still a weakness. The thing about trust, real trust, is that its not common, and its not necessary. It shouldn't be common, that's the point." You truly trust somebody, and your giving them an opportunity to do to you what nobody else can. That's not to say you can't give anybody the benefit of the doubt though. Jayce had his own definition of trust. He was too smart to really let somebody screw him over or stab him in the back or upset him because they did, but he'd go ahead and let them get close and such. He'd just make them regret it, because nobody could mess with him. He could let go of things incredibly easy, no regrets, no matter how close they got. Because things don't get to him, he's not weak. Except the one person, but she was different, and really, they weren't even together.

Ross right? Seemed everybody knew him, which well, he wasn't complaining about. "That's the one. Jayce Ross." He'd rather go by his name than his sirname. Though Jayce was actually a nickname, but one he'd pretty much had his entire life, so it might as well have been his real name, most thought it was anyway. A teacher would call him Jayden and sometimes even he wouldn't realize they were talking to him.
