`Just Dance

`Just Dance is an intermediate through advanced role playing site that takes place in New York. The city has a prominent dance school by the name of Clarksbury that every dancer hopes to attend to sky rocket their career. The scouts come to all of their concerts looking for the ones who can make it into the big time Broadway shows, and even in film and television.

Fall Annual Dance Performance

It's that time of year again, and the entire school is buzzing for the upcoming performance. The concert will be held in a different theater uptown, and there are limited times to prectice on the stage because of this. So, staging and spacing are done in increments of 4 throught the day, and soon they will be brought out into the bright lights to perform. Who will survive, and who will crack under the pressure?

The morning had been tolerable for Shane, and she had been up at the crack of dawn doing various routines from performances past in her dorm room for the better part of the morning. She would switch from ballet to hip hop and then back again, strong in both but preferred the ballet. It was fluid and more dynamic, in her opinion and she favored performing in a ballet than any sort of hip hop thing. Still, she learned it and did so well, another asset she could place on a resume.

The early morning hours had passed before she realized, and by the time she was aching for a morning coffee it were almost nine. So, not bothering to change out of her dance attire, she headed up the block clad in leg warmers to Steamer's. It was her favorite place to get a cup of the good stuff, and they served it up right. As she walked, she could taste it before she actually smelled it seeping down the city block and around the corner. A girl could easily get used to a life like this.

Entering the tiny cafe, the young man behind the counter had greeter her as 'sugar pie' of which she graciously accepted. She was in here enough that the employees all knew who she was, where she was coming from and what exactly she wanted. He wasted no time in pre-ordering her drink before she even got to the counter to pay. The line wasn't long, but her drink was ready when she got there. She smiled absently, not really in the mood for small talk this morning. He seemed to get that, and took her five dollar bill in acceptance, giving her loose change in return. She dropped it in the tip jar, giving him a simple nod before she walked away.

Gripping her caramel something or another. She had long forgotten the name of it, having it ordered before she could do it herself and got seated comfortably on one of the large velor couches that littered the dining area. She wondered for a moment how they kept the upholstery so neat and clean. You'd think someone would have spilled something on it by now, but the cream color sparkled back at her. Squeaky clean and new looking. It made her sick and she fought the urge to drop her caramel concoction all over the cushion beside her.

People came and went, and she sat in the heat of the tiny cafe for a few hours. Just listening to the soft music and conversation was soothing to her, contrasting the outside hustle and bustle of the city life beyond the glass walls of Steamer's. She watched some people carry on with their lives. Heading to work, taking a cab, shopping and other things were occurring and she simply stayed still. The feeling was pure magic, and she didn't budge when she realized it were time for her math class to start. Shit... she voiced in her head, but made no effort to move.

Knowing she wouldn't make it in time anyway, she wasn't all too saddened by not being able to attend today. She was content and on her second (or was it third?) coffee that was smothered in caramel syrup. She smiled into her cup as she took another sip, letting her eyes close and the atmosphere gulp her up. The music and people clamed her, and her body finally relaxed against the pearly white of the unsoiled cafe couch.

Through a headphone in each ear played a song only the current listener would recognize. Why? Because he was the one that made it. Or rather, was currently making it. Call it a work in progress. Dance music, for Jayce's latest piece. Only right now he wasn't dancing to it, just reviewing it and a few others while taking a morning jog. A body like that didn't last without working to keep it, and the dances he did didn't work without it. Hip-hop and a wide range of the more modern stuff, Acrobatics, Lyrical, and the Ballet he was required to take. Well, he had to be good. Probably one of the only things in his entire life that had really caught his attention and gotten him to work for something productive.

He jogged at a quick pace most would have to run or sprint to keep up with, his breathing steady and barely even sweating in the cool morning breeze. As the last of his songs ended, he was pretty close to Steamers, a nice little Cafe. He figured it was still pretty early, might as well get a cup. Plus, it was a small cafe, maybe he could find something in the middle of this city that was a bit natural and not so city artificial.

Jayce had grown up in the countryside, all the green and beautiful clear water and animals running around, horses in the large field outside of the house, his horses. The city was quite a change but he didn't mind. Plenty of people around, new things, new perspective. The hardest part really was how non natural things were. The pollution and all that, not his thing. Mostly he kept up a Vegan lifestyle, partially because it was good for the body and mind or soul or whatever, but also because he actually did like the nice country.

He walked into the coffee shop, taking the headphones from his ears and letting them fall around his neck with the music now stopped. Going up to the counter and ordering a nice cup of coffee that wasn't filled with all that surgery crap and artificial things that pretty much ruined the point of drinking coffee. He smiled at the girl at the counter, paying with a credit card. His adopted family hadn't been extremely wealthy, but they did have quite a bit of money.

Enjoying the quiet peace, he went to sit down with his new drink, and saw the gorgeous blond girl on the couch drinking from her own cup and dressed in what was obviously attire meant to dance in. He smiled to himself a bit, sitting at a table near her and looking at her. "Let me guess, Third Year, right? At Clarksbury." He spoke, his British accent quite apparent, though not too thick. He himself was dressed in proper clothes for running- loose fitting pants, a plain white tank-top that fit nicely to his muscled chest, and and unzipped hoodie sweatshirt. Nothing special, but there really was no point.

The atmosphere had changed in the room, and she felt a presence hovering over her. She knew that she wouldn't be able to relax when she was wearing such a get up, especially in such a public place. Her outfit screamed dancer, and yet people seemed to go stupid when they entered her presence. She always seemed to be a coach of some sort, reteaching them how to use their common sense, but the words that came out of his mouth were knowing and almost soothing.

Interesting... she said to herself, listening to his accent in awe. Being from a smaller city in Arizona, any accent interested her. She smiled gently, opening only one eye to peek at the stranger standing before her. To her surprise, she actually recognized his face from campus. His name or any of his personalized information was lost in the depths of her thoughts, but she indeed recognized him. She thought over his question, repeating it for a moment as she straightened and made room for him on the couch. She was in a better mood this morning, so being civil to him was only in order.

She patted the cushion beside her, welcoming him to sit beside her for a chat. By now, her own cup of coffee was cold, and she waved at the familiar face behind the counter for another round. She knew it was almost poison in her bloodstream, but it was her one habit she wasn't able to kick to the curb. Coffee, other than dance, was her passion. It kept her going like fuel, and you needed some sort of energy to keep you going in a dancer's lifestyle. As he sat beside her, his name popped into her head.

"Jayce, right...? You go to Clarksbury... I recognize you." she stated as though it were a game he had been playing with her. She gulped down the last of the cold caramel number before the fresh one arrived, wincing in distaste. They didn't seem to go down quite as well if they were piping hot, but it still contained the caffeine she was looking for. "The name's Shane, and you're correct. Third year at Clarksbury..." she stated a matter-of-fact. Looking him over, she guessed he was a third year as well, but then they would of had a class together, which they did not.

One of the employee's, a male she had ordered her original drink from brought a fresh cup, beaming from ear to ear. She smiled at him, nodding in a thank you as he took the empty one away. He was good to her, and anyone from the outside world could tell he was under her spell. An evil, almost voodoo like trance that she seemed to hold her male suitors in. She liked getting what she wanted, and this was how she accomplished this. Jayce's cup of joe didn't resemble hers at all, and she made a face at it in disapproval.

"What is that, exactly?" she asked, pointing a single bony finger at his cup. Her fingernails were unpolished and seemed to be bitten off, only nubs of the nail remaining. Though, they still looked neat and tidy for what damage they were put through. She returned her attention momentarily to her own glass, taking a long drink of the hot liquid. It burned her throat, but she didn't mind much. It made her feel alive.

Most people wouldn't know what to say seeing the girl there like that, and would instead just ignore it having nothing even remotely intelligent to say, or go up and say there not even remotely intelligent thing. Then of course she'd probably send them off without even the small bit of pride they had had before. But Jayce wasn't most people, he was Jayce. And he had plenty of intelligent things to say and enough pride to last him a lifetimes worth of whatever she could dish out without even being scarred. Besides, he was curious, and liked people.

His voice tended to have some sort of effect on people, and not just Americans because of the accent. He actually had a really nice voice, almost entrancing in a way. And not a bad singer, to be modest. Though he had found most people in the states had some comment or thought on the British accent to it, because it meant he obviously wasn't from around here or immediate family wasn't, so there had to be some story right? It was just the same when people visited England from the States.

He hadn't exactly recognized her to a specific person, but he knew he'd seen her around, and could obviously guess where she was coming from. She was too experienced looking for a first year, and no first year would be dancing that early and not bother to change. And he guessed she wasn't a fourth year one because she looked younger, and two, because she was more... untamed. Most fourth years wouldn't even be here. There was the possibility from first impression that she was a second year like him, the more into it kind, but as she had figured, they didn't have classes together. So that left third, which turned out correct which he had been confident it would. Jayce had a pretty good knack for reading people. When she opened her eyes and acknowledged him, offering the seat, he smiled back and took it comfortably. No need to be rude and refuse.

He was a bit surprised she knew at least his name, though not overly surprised. Not like he was completely unknown or anything. He was the type to get around a lot. "Good guess," he said with a smile, "Second year." But recognize could mean a lot of things, what the real question was, recognize how? "That a good thing, or should I start to worry?" he asked, not planning to worry though. Most people knew Shane for her reputation as 'bitch,' but that wouldn't stop him any. Jayce loved games, especially when they loved to play.

When the male came up like a puppy dog to its master he couldn't help but laugh to himself at the guy. Some people were just... weak. The slightest little thing and they were under your spell, amazing how far that could get people. Jayce though, preferred more of a challenge. Sure he was looking at just what the people like the worker were, and he'd go after it, but he'd be the one setting the game when he did, even if they thought otherwise. When the guy left with his accomplished task he couldn't keep that laugh completely silent anymore, shaking his head a bit before taking another sip of his coffee.

The coffee which she then insulted, getting a laugh from him. "This, is coffee. You know, comes in the form of a bean." he looked at hers, [b]"But I think the question is more what is that." he asked like it was some alien concoction from outer space. Syrup and sugar and who knows what else with a tad bit of coffee flavor is not coffee. What he was drinking was coffee, and also much more natural without the chemicals and artificial whatever. Keeping things natural he found was better for him, a good part of how he managed to keep the amazing shape and health he was in.

She moved about on the couch to get more comfortable, cross-legged and facing him with her back on the arm rest. She took another sip of the 'toxic' drink, or so he assumed and she felt the burn all the way to her gut. Really, she should stay away from the stuff but it was a personal addiction she wasn't aware of. It kept her going, and that's really all that mattered to her. She didn't care what he said about it. It tasted delicious, and she wasn't going to stop drinking it for...whatever was in that cup of his.

It was plain and boring, his single mug of coffee and she decided that it was his choice to get something so unoriginal and bland. Without the sugar and syrups it couldn't taste very good, and it was probably decaf. Really, she saw no point in his selection. You might as well have water because it's basically the same thing. She set her cup of the small table in front of them and took her hair out of it's tight bun. The constrictive nature of the tie she was using was beginning to give her a headache and her hair flowed in light locks around her face. It was especially curly this afternoon, being that she had pulled it up wet rather than doing much with it.

"Second year... really?" she asked in a curious tone, having a hard time seeing it. He easily passed as a third year, but didn't seem the type to ditch regular classes because after all...third years had Math around this time and he was sitting beside her. Second year seemed correct theoretically, but he was so comfortable with himself to be only a second year. She laughed gently at his next comment, and she shook her head as she replied. "No, you shouldn't worry. I tend to know everyone at the school...whether I like it or not." She noticed the irony in the entire thing, and she laughed gently. "...and vise versa. No one wants to really know me, but they do."

His comment about the coffee caught her off guard, not knowing he was going to reply with such a tone. A bean, really... she thought silently, giving him a sly smile. "Wow, you're a quick one. I wonder if you know anything about where bananas come from..." she said sarcastically, meeting his tone. She felt automatically comfortable with him, and that didn't happen very often, especially when she was placed in front of a second year and told to communicate nicely. His question on the topic of hers made her smile. "This," she began as she picked up her glass again. "...this is liquid heaven in a cup." she said whole heartedly and took a long drink. She couldn't help but remember she had said the same thing about beer a few weeks back. Ah, he wouldn't know that.

She may see his cup of real coffee as unoriginal and bland, but by the way he figured it, he was being more original than any of them. Nobody drank the real stuff anymore, not really. And the real stuff, definately did not include decaf. She called it bland, but to him it was the rich flavor that made it tasteful, coffee flavor. He had his own coffee addiction, when he was 12. Since then, not so much, but he still loved the stuff. But whatever did it for her. He was content with his cup though, feeling no need to pump his digestive system with sticky syrups and excessive sugars and chemicals.

"That surprising?" To most it was actually, he could pass for a lot older than he was, and sure pulled off acting like it. The talent was there, and the comfortability with himself, well, he was just a cocky and confident person. He didn't base too much on the year though, it was just a year, a label. He liked to fit outside of the label placed on him. "The only reason for not wanting to know a person, is because you can't handle who they are." The way she said it, it sounded like she hated everybody and they hated her. But even if you don't like a person, that doesn't mean theres nothing you can get from knowing them. Whether it be that knowledge that helps you in something, or that hurts them, theres still something. Not wanting to know them at all meant that you couldn't deal with that person enough to get that thing. Jaye just preferred the people that had more to offer, or a challenge.

He smiled when she returned the tone. Most people would be offended or at least annoyed, but he loved it, personalities like that. "Not so slow yourself." Not many people could really make Jayce uncomfortable. The right things to say just came naturally to him. The real question was whether he felt it was really worth it to be around them, he wouldn't be uncomfortable, but keeping his attention was a whole other story. Shane was doing pretty well at that so far.

"With whatever they put in it, its a liquid ticket to heaven, or hell, if that's what you believe in." Jayce wasn't really a health freak, not exactly, just a bit of a nature lover. Some things people got right the first time around.
